The Achieving Financial Security Forum was created in response to the rampant financial illiteracy found in so many of our communities. Surveys illustrate that a large number of U.S. consumers fail basic financial literacy tests, and that the effects of low financial literacy are greatly magnified among women and minorities. This inability to understand key financial concepts and manage personal finances carries a very high cost.

Financial literacy is a critical component of the process of achieving financial security and overall financial wellness. With the right information, consumers can make better choices and work toward defining and achieving both short- and long-term financial goals.

The Forum is intended to bring the unique, multidisciplinary expertise of financial service professionals to traditionally underserved communities, where there is a lack of knowledge about the real need for planning, and a lack of awareness of the actual costs of this lack of knowledge. The content of each event is customized to address the particular needs of the community in which it takes place; it reflects the real-life issues we all face. The format always allows for audience interaction so questions can be directly addressed by the panel of local experts. There is no fee to attend, and the speakers all donate their time and talents. The goal is education; there is no selling or solicitation of any kind—just expert guidance from within the community. By the end of the program, attendees will have a foundation of financial information on which to build, an appreciation of the value a professional advisor holds, and a greater comfort level seeking the advice of financial service professionals.
